๐ŸŽค Stinknet Stay Away! An invasive species transforming desert wildfire risk

Stinknet (Oncosiphon pilulifer, also known as globe chamomile) is a relatively new invasive species in Pima County, though it has been present in the Sonoran Desert for nearly three decades. This aggressive plant dramatically increases wildfire risk by adding dense, continuous fuel loads to desert landscapes where it spreads.

In this talk, youโ€™ll learn about the history, biology, and impacts of stinknet, including how it threatens native plants and public safety. The presentation will also share practical tips for identification and removal, empowering community members to help slow its spread.

About the Speaker:
Rachel Mitchell is an Associate Professor at the University of Arizona whose work focuses on how ecosystems across the Southwest respond to climate change, invasive species, and altered fire regimes.
