Open to all Sonoran Audubon Society Friends and Family Members and Friends of Friends Guests at this Special Members’ Meeting are SAS’ 2022, 2023 and 2024 Western Yellow Billed Cuckoo Survey Interns!
You’ll hear about their adventures learning about and counting these wonderful birds on the Upper Agua Fria River, at Tres Rios in PHX and at other sites in our part of Arizona. Our intrepid young interns count these birds on the hottest days of the year—from mid-June through August— when Cuckoos arrive in AZ to build their nests and raise young. Bob McCormick, former SAS Board President and SAS Important Bird Area Coordinator and Tim Flood, long time SAS member and leader of the Upper Agua Fria River Annual Wet Dry Mapping surveys, are the senior guides and leaders for SAS’ interns. SAS’ outreach to conservation science majors and recent college graduates through these internships is resulting in their participation with SAS and other AZ Audubon chapters. SAS always appreciates interns’ and others’ input to make this effort better and more far- reaching. We hope you’ll join us! —Sincerely, the SAS Board.
