Start your New Year with a Sedona Christmas Bird Count. With the help of a circle leader and your team members, watch and count birds at their feeders. Start off the first day of The Tres Rios Nature Festival learning about the wildlife and ecosystems of the Sonoran Desert. Our various sponsors are hosting guided bird tours and walks in the desert or mountains along with arts and crafts activities.
Start off Spring with a visit to see migratory birds at the Granite Reef Dam. Along the Salt River, you may see ducks, wrens, sparrows, Bullock’s Orioles and Lucy’s Warblers. Many rare sightings like hawks, falcons and eagles may be present.
Join the Friends of the San Pedro River guides to walk around the Fairbank Townsite and discuss its 19th century history. Join them for an additional walk to the cemetery if you have the time. The trip lasts for several miles and includes a hilly terrain and loose rocks.
Take a fly tying class to learn flyfishing using different materials and techniques. Learn the basics of fly tying.
In mid-March, celebrate Spring by taking a family-friendly bird walk. This is a morning bird walk with a guided tour.
Most people fear rattlesnakes when they think of the Arizona wilderness. But all snakes, no matter how dangerous or fearsome they are, are an essential part of the ecosystem. Jeff Meyers from the Arizona Game and Fish Department discusses the need to save rattlesnakes to preserve future generations of wildlife.
Tour the Arizona Game and Fish Outdoor Expo to see wildlife exhibits, animals, fishing tanks and shooting ranges. This family-friendly event is hosted by local and statewide conservation organizations and recreation groups.
