Join Friends of the Tonto NF volunteers for a 4 day/3 night backpack to brush & clear dead-fall on Sheep Creek Trail. Friends has a grant to hire American Conservation Experience youth crews to clear the trail, and needs 100 volunteer hours. The group will be camping in McFarland Canyon near an intermittent stream, under tall evergreen trees. Tools will be provided, but participants must be self-supported, food, tent, sleeping bag, etc.
We’re meeting at Mormon Grove Trailhead, accessed from State Highway 87 (the Beeline Hwy), at 8:00 AM Friday, March 8, and will return to the trailhead Monday, March 11 at 4:00 PM. McFarland Canyon is a moderate 4 mile hike north of Mormon Grove Trailhead on Saddle Mountain Trail. Once Sheep Creek Trail is cleared, it will provide a loop trip on Davenport & Arizona trails. From Hwy. 87 mile marker 222 turn west at Sycamore Creek sign. Turn right at dirt road across cattle guard. Turn left at next cattle guard. Turn left at sign & cross Sycamore Creek to Trailhead.
