Join Ranger Kevin for an easy 2-mile night hike on the Tortoise and Hilltop trails. We will be looking for all three species of scorpion native to our neck of the Sonoran Desert: Striped-tail, Bark, and, of course, the Giant Desert Hairy. Who knows what else we may see? Trails are rated easy, with minimal loose rock, uneven terrain and elevation change. Anyone that does not wish to hike uphill is free to leave after the Tortoise Trail segment. Please wear sturdy closed-toe shoes, and bring plenty of water, and a flashlight. If you have a UV (black) light, feel free to bring it as well, but the Ranger will have one for spotting and highlighting scorpions. Restrooms are available near the parking area. No pets, please.

MEETING LOCATION: Trailhead Staging Area.

Limit 20 participants. To register, please call the Visitor Center at 602-506-2930 ext. 3 with your name, phone number and number of people attending. If you find you cannot attend a program after you have registered, please call the Visitor Center ASAP so we may contact those on the waiting list. Monsoon storms may cause cancelation if chance of storms or flash floods are high. Registration for this program will close at NOON (12pm) on 7/01/23.
