Buffelgrass Pull with Dillinger Brewing

Register on our events page

Objective: Are you ready to help Save our Saguaros? You’ve probably heard about the threats invasive buffelgrass has on the fragile Sonoran Desert, especially how it creates an unnatural fire hazard. Here is an opportunity for you to take action by getting outside and removing buffelgrass with us.

Event description: We’ll meet at a Pima County parcel of land along a section of the Santa Cruz near Silverlake/Mission and start with an orientation and some safety precautions and then get to pulling. You’ll not only have the satisfaction of removing buffelgrass, but also receive a special discount when you come visit Dillinger Brewing Company after the pull with us. Our partner, Dillinger Brewing, is located on 4th avenue not too far from our Nature Shop. They will be giving each person who comes in after the pull a $1 discount per beer. We’re looking forward to working and celebrating with you afterwards. Specific meeting instructions will be emailed beforehand.

Requirements: Participants should expect to be actively standing, stooping, pulling, using hand tools and hiking to access and remove buffelgrass for roughly 4 hours. Please bring sturdy boots/hiking shoes, long pants and a long sleeved shirt, a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, water, work gloves and snacks or a lunch. Parking is available onsite and accessible for passenger vehicles.

Tools will be provided – participants will be using picks to remove grass. Medical kits will be available onsite. Masks will be required when social distancing cannot be maintained. A hand wash station will be available onsite.
