This is a hands-on class. There will be a “classroom” session followed by putting theory into practice–actually paddling a kayak on the water. This course is designed to equip paddlers with basic skills to get from point A to point B successfully, understand the legal responsibilities that come with getting on the water, and what to do in emergency situations. AZGFD provides all of the paddle equipment including life jackets. Shade and seating will be provided but feel free to bring your own comfy camp chair for the “classroom” portion. The class will be at Dead Horse State Park, 675 Dead Horse Ranch Road, Cottonwood, AZ 86326. We will meet at the third lagoon, where you will see a large truck and trailer with the AZGFD logo! Bring a lunch or snack to eat after the classroom portion and before we get on the water. Wear shoes that can get wet (your feet WILL get wet). Don’t forget a towel and a change of clothes as swimming can happen to the best paddler 🙂 Students must be 10 years of age or older in order to attend. If you are registering a minor under the age of 18, a parent or guardian over the age of 18 must accompany them to the class. Most importantly, please do not forget to print and sign the Consent Waiver provided below in the “Requirements” section. Be sure to cancel your registration if you or someone in your household becomes sick.
