Silver Creek trout habitat has been severely impacted by flooding over the last several years. This project consists of manual and mechanical removal of aquatic vegetation to improve stream flow and angler access.

AZTU will be joining with the White Mountain Fly Fishers Club and others to do a stream restoration project on Silver Creek, near Show Low, in collaboration with AZGFD.

The scope of the project is to cut reeds along the creek shore to facilitate access to the water for anglers. There is also hydrilla, which grows in the creek that we will be removing. AZGFD gets its money from license sales. We are helping license purchasers get access to the water and to the fish.

Volunteers are welcome to come and go as needed. We could arrange a carpool.

The work involves using a couple of gas-powered pole hedge trimmers to cut the reeds. We then rake them to the bank where we pile them and load them into the bucket of a front-loader. Getting in the water in chest waders is an option. It is a fun project where we can make a difference in a day.
