Join us as we explore the stunning Jewel of the Creek Preserve. This desert oasis, filled with towering cottonwood and willow trees along Cave Creek, holds one of the last remaining perennial streams in Maricopa County. The unusual year-round presence of water supports a myriad of unique plant and animal species.
Our hike will take us on the Dragonfly Trail Loop which is a moderate, 2-mile hike. The trail is rocky in places, with an approximately 100 foot elevation change down to and back from the creek. The trail crosses the creek in two locations and may require traversing a narrow footbridge. The rating is medium due to the uneven surface. We recommend that you wear closed-toed shoes, sun protection, and bring drinking water. Hiking poles are not required but may be helpful if preferred. There are no facilities at the preserve, so plan ahead.
