Introduction to Sonoran Desert Birds – Sabino Canyon
Registration for this trip is free. | Register Here
Trip difficulty: Moderate. Walk about 2 miles, primarily on dirt paths, limited elevation gain.
Meet by 7 am at the Visitor Center. We’ll finish by 9:00am.
This trip is intended for people new to birding or for birders from other regions who want to learn about common springtime birds in the Sonoran desert. We’ll explore a few of the diverse habitats at beautiful Sabino Canyon during the height of spring migration. We’ll practice identifying birds by shape, sounds and colors, and by observing their behaviors. We’ll discuss the important connections between birds and native desert plants and focus more on enjoying the birds that show up rather than getting a long list of species. Participants will be introduced to some great resources for getting started with desert birding. Limited to 10 participants. Binoculars can be provided for those who need them. Full details will be emailed to registered participants prior to the walk.
