Gilbert Water Ranch and Tempe Town Lake (Phoenix Metro Area)
Sign up on the Field Trip Page
Complete Covid-19 vaccination is required.
Trip difficulty: Easy. Well-graded, mostly wheelchair accessible paths.
We’ll start at Gilbert Water Ranch, one of the top birding destinations in the Phoenix metro area, usually yielding 45-50 species in a typical two-hour cool season walk, including wintering waterfowl, waders, shorebirds, common desert species and often some surprises. A roseate spoonbill has been visiting regularly, hanging around with the egrets. After a break, we’ll take a quick detour to Tempe Town Lake, to see what we can add to our list. The Lake can host deeper diving birds, as well as Osprey and Bald Eagles. Wrap up around 11:30 am. Limited to 7 participants.
Leader: Kathe Anderson (kathe.coot@cox.net)
