Join Ranger Eric for a guided hike to learn about the animals, plants, and ecology of the Sonoran Desert. We will hike 7.2 miles roundtrip on the Elephant Mountain loop, including segments of Spur Cross, Tortuga, and Elephant Mountain Trails. It will be on moderate to difficult grade, with frequently rocky or uneven ground. Please dress in layers, wear protective clothing and/or sunscreen, wear sturdy footwear, and carry ample water (at least 3 liters), electrolytes, and snacks for yourself. Porta-potties are located 200 ft beyond the parking lot. No water available, so bring your own.

MEETING LOCATION: From the main trailhead parking at Spur Cross Ranch Conservation Area, follow the signs and old road about 1/4-mile down to the trail junction where there are porta-potties and a few picnic tables beneath a ramada. We will meet here for the hike. See park map here: https://www.maricopacountyparks.net/assets/1/6/spur-cross-8×11.pdf

*Please note: Entry to Spur Cross Conservation Area is $3 per person. Annual Pass or CASH are accepted, and exact change is much appreciated. If the fee station past the parking lot is closed, there are iron rangers with envelopes to place your payment in.

Limit 15 participants. To register, please call the Cave Creek Nature Center at 602-506-2930 ext. 8 with your name, phone number, and number of people attending. If you find you cannot attend a program after you have registered, please call back ASAP so those on the waiting list may be contacted. Registration for this program will close on Thursday, 3/7/24.
