General Information

The Cave Creek Ranger District has identified Trail #247 for high priority trail maintenance. Work will consist of clearing and brushing trails, closing social trails, and installing fiberglass trail markers. Forest Service personnel will accompany both crews and assist with the work. There will be TWO options for volunteer crews. Indicate which shift you would like on the registration form:

  • Shorter Day (2 to 4 miles hiking total):  8:30 AM to 12:00 noon.  Hiking and trail work will be closer to the trailhead
  • Longer Day (4 to 6 miles hiking total):   8:30 AM to 4:00 PM (approximate). Trail work will begin further down Trail #247 and will be more physically demanding

Location

Meet in the parking lot of the Cave Creek Trailhead at 8:30 AM. From Pima Road, turn right onto Cave Creek Road. The trailhead is 16.5 miles (37 minutes) from this intersection. Be aware that Cave Creek Road becomes a gravel road for the last 8 miles. Although it is rated for passenger cars, it can be rough in places.

What to Bring

  • Dress for the weather. Close-toed shoes are required, but hiking boots are highly recommended. Wear long pants, a long-sleeved shirt and a hat.

  • Safety glasses or sunglasses
  • Sunscreen
  • Bring your favorite garden clippers or loppers if you have them. The Forest Service will have a limited number of tools on hand
