This project is rated easy to moderate. Our project will focus on brushing, treadwork, and some possible drainage work.
We’ll be working in higher elevation mountain terrain, and there should be some shade. Our project area is 0.5 miles from the trailhead, so we anticipate hiking between 1 and 3 miles for the day with our tools. This project is rated easy to moderate, with some steeper switchbacks and elevation gain.
Our project will focus on brushing, meaning the removal of vegetation from trail corridor (often this vegetation can be thorny or woody, so clearing it is important to keeping the trail open to users), treadwork, meaning repair or improvement of trail surface, and some possible drainage work, meaning construction, clearing, or improvement of excavated trail features to divert water away from tread as needed.
This means we’ll be working with hand saws, loppers, rakes, pick mattocks, cutters for grubbing, Mcleods, rogue hoes, pulaskis, and spades, but other kinds of tasks may be needed once we are on site.
All tools and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be provided. No prior trail work experience is required – we’ll provide necessary instruction and guidance for new volunteers.
Please wear long sleeves, long pants, and sturdy shoes. Bring sun protection (sunscreen, sunglasses, headcovering, etc.), 2L drinking water, and snacks as needed. Lunch will be provided by Beyond Bread.
The trailhead is easily accessible with a passenger car. Details for meeting location and final instructions will be provided to registered volunteers.
