The Bowhunter Happening is a family friendly non-competitive 3D archery shoot held annually at Mormon Lake, AZ on the third weekend of each July. The BHH has held this yearly event since the early 1970’s. Our event draws archers from all over Arizona and the Southwest. Six different 3D courses are set up on the ridge in the cool pines where you shoot at the targets placed in the woods. The Extreme Course will challenge even the best archers with longer shots and some very difficult target placements.
Want some competition? Then the Smoker course & Long Shot ranges are fun for archers who like to shoot really tight spaces and at really far distances! Prizes are given for men, women and youth classes. Also try shooting at the moving prairie dog, bear, turkey & javelina targets! Or try your best at shooting the flying disc aerial shoot where you try to knock down flying targets!
Kids 8 years and younger can shoot the Big Bear kids course. Long time ABA member Paul Line unfortunately has passed away but this course will see it’s 40th season! There is no cost for the kids and bows and arrows are provided if needed. Each child who shoots the course receives a Big Bear shirt and gets goodies! This course was updated in 2019 with the Arizona Big 10 animal signs. This year we will be providing a special commemorative shirt to all the kids AND for the first time, we will be selling adult sized shirts!
Food vendors will be on site. Raffles will be available throughout the weekend with the drawings being held as the very last item. You do not have to be present to win, but we hope you are! Camping is available in the surrounding Coconino National Forest or at Mormon Lake itself. Courses and onsite registration will open daily at 6 am. The registration area is held under the tent in the roping arena. Mormon Lake has a limited number of cabins available for rent and the nearest hotels are located in Flagstaff about 30 minutes away.
