SUMMARY:Lowlands of Flagstaff Volunteering
DESCRIPTION:Lowlands of Flag Trail Work\nJoin us to do some trail maintenance on Passage 32 between Walnut Canyon & Elden. \nHere are the details:\nWe’ll hike in ~2.5 miles with tools & take care of some brushing\, tread work\, & drains. This section of trail winds through junipers\, pine trees\, & features some fun little rock features. There isn’t a lot of elevation gain\, but we will be at ~6500 ft. Make sure you bring water\, sunscreen\, electrolytes\, & layers. Camping remains banned in this area\, but there places just outside of the Flagstaff mountains off of Lake Mary road\, past the peaks\, & north off of 89. \nTrail work will include:\nBrushing\nTreadwork\nDrainage Work \nDifficulty Rating:\nModerate: Accessible to first time volunteers but challenging in terms of access and/or intensity of work. Often this means either the hike in may be hard\, but the work is relatively easy or the reverse but not both being hard. \nMeeting Location:\nCosnino Rd just before RR crossing\, park on BNSF road

DESCRIPTION:Grit & Granite: Operation Twin Canyons\nJoin the AZT VETS (Veteran Engagement & Trail Stewardship) Program\, with support from Coronado National Forest and Pima County Parks & Recreation\, as we improve the trail corridor on Passages 6B & 7A of the Arizona National Scenic Trail! \nEvent Schedule:\nThursday\, April 10: Meet off Highway AZ-83\, near Lakes Rd. Volunteers will set up shelters\, followed by a meet-and-greet\, a homemade dinner\, and a fireside safety briefing.\nFriday & Saturday\, April 11 – 12: Enjoy breakfast at camp\, followed by a quick tool and trail construction class. We’ll work on the trail\, with lunch provided on-site\, and conclude the day with dinner back at camp.\nSunday\, April 13: After breakfast\, we’ll continue trail work for 2-4 hours (weather permitting)\, gather for feedback\, and wrap up with an early afternoon departure. \nDetails:\nMost meals are provided at no extra cost to participants. Pre-registration is required\, and we welcome all ages and abilities. However\, please remember that trail work may involve hiking several miles and engaging in moderate to strenuous physical labor. Registration is limited to 16 volunteers\, so sign up today!\nThis opportunity is for veterans only. It provides a space for service members to connect\, share experiences\, and create new memories while working together on the Arizona National Scenic Trail. \nSafety Note:\nThe ATA will continue COVID-19 protocols as recommended by health officials. We ask that volunteers avoid participating in this event if they are experiencing symptoms or suspect recent exposure to COVID-19. DESCRIPTION:Join the Arizona Wildlife Federation and the Arizona Trail Association for a special All Afield Hike in celebration of Arizona Public Lands Day! We’ll be exploring the stunning Gabe Zimmerman Trail Loop\, a 2.1-mile trek that’s perfect for outdoor enthusiasts of all ages. \nThis popular trail is renowned for birding and hiking and will take us through the beautiful Cienega Creek as well as a portion of the iconic Arizona Trail. Expect breathtaking views\, fascinating rock formations\, and a relatively flat path. Starting at the Gabe Zimmerman Trailhead\, the trail is a mix of dirt and gravel\, with some rockier sections to navigate. Restrooms and public parking are available at the trailhead. \nThis hike is the perfect opportunity to connect with Arizona’s beautiful public lands — we hope you can join us! \nHighlights: \n\nWildlife Watching: We may spot a variety of mammals like raccoons\, coyotes\, javelinas\, and even coatimundis. Keep an eye out for beautiful birds such as vermilion flycatchers\, phainopeplas (aka “goth cardinals”)\, and green-tailed towhees.\nNative Plant Identification: Discover a wide diversity of plant life\, including fruit-bearing cacti and native wildflowers that add vibrant color to the landscape.\nScenic Views & Geology: Enjoy breathtaking vistas and fascinating rock formations as you explore the trail.\nAccessible & Family-Friendly: The trail is welcoming to all ages and is a beginner-friendly hike.
