SUMMARY:History Walk Millville and Petroglyph Trail
DESCRIPTION:Walk this trail with FSPR docent Richard Bauer to visit Millville\, location of two historic silver mills\, and an adjacent Indian petroglyph site. The tour will focus on the history of mining and the mills which were active during the Tombstone silver boom. This is about a 2mile walk on an uneven dirt and gravel trail that crosses through a deep wash. Please realistically assess your ability to do this walk. There is no shade\, and it will be hot on sunny days.  Wear a hat\, sun protection\, appropriate clothing\, and sturdy shoes.  Bring water and snacks. Meet at the Millville and Petroglyph Discovery Trail parking area. This trailhead is located 7.5miles east of Sierra Vista on Charleston Road. This is not the parking area right by the river: look for the fire danger level sign on the north side of Charleston Road at the entrance to the parking lot\, about .5 miles east of the river. Meet by the vault toilet. This location is searchable as “Millville and Petroglyph Discovery Trail” in Google Maps.   For more information\, call (520) 508-4445 or email fspr@sanpedroriver.org.

SUMMARY:Habitat Project | Rock Rolling Vegetation Removal
DESCRIPTION:Silver Creek trout habitat has been severely impacted by flooding over the last several years. This project consists of manual and mechanical removal of aquatic vegetation to improve stream flow and angler access. \nAZTU will be joining with the White Mountain Fly Fishers Club and others to do a stream restoration project on Silver Creek\, near Show Low\, in collaboration with AZGFD. \nThe scope of the project is to cut reeds along the creek shore to facilitate access to the water for anglers. There is also hydrilla\, which grows in the creek that we will be removing. AZGFD gets its money from license sales. We are helping license purchasers get access to the water and to the fish. \nVolunteers are welcome to come and go as needed. We could arrange a carpool. \nThe work involves using a couple of gas-powered pole hedge trimmers to cut the reeds. We then rake them to the bank where we pile them and load them into the bucket of a front-loader. Getting in the water in chest waders is an option. It is a fun project where we can make a difference in a day.
