SUMMARY:History Walk at San Pedro House
DESCRIPTION:Join FSPR docent Gabrielle La Fargue for a tour of the San Pedro House. The San Pedro House was once of the working center of one of the camps that comprised the Little Boquillas Ranch. Here a rancher and his family lived\, tending the cattle in that part of the ranch\, and performing the many maintenance tasks required. Famously\, Betty Foster Escapule wrote a book about her early years living at the San Pedro House\, its title is The Five Fosters. Gabrielle will discuss the history of the house and then lead a tour around the house looking at historic remnants from its time as a ranch house. The one-hour tour entails about ¼ mile of walking over level trails. The San Pedro House is 7 miles east of Sierra Vista on Highway 90. Look for a turn on the south side of the highway about 0.5 mile west of the San Pedro River. San Pedro House is searchable as “San Pedro House” in Google Maps. For more information\, call (520) 508-4445 or email fspr@sanpedroriver.org.

SUMMARY:History Walk\, Fairbank Historic Townsite
DESCRIPTION:Take a walk around Fairbank with an FSPR docent. It’s a good way to learn a little about the history of the area and enjoy some time outdoors. Fairbank dates to1882 when it grew up around a train depot – the closest to Tombstone. The optional walk to the cemetery is about a one-mile round trip on a trail which includes a short uphill section with poor footing and loose rock. You are welcome to participate in the tour and not go to the cemetery. Wear a hat\, sun protection\, appropriate clothing\, and sturdy shoes. Bring water and snacks. The tour meets in front of the Schoolhouse at the Fairbank Townsite. The entrance to the parking area is on the north side of the highway about 0.5 mile east of the San Pedro River bridge. Park in the outer lot and use the fenced trail to walk to the schoolhouse. “Fairbank AZ” is searchable in Google Maps.  For more information\, call (520) 508-4445 or email fspr@sanpedroriver.org.

SUMMARY:Lowlands of Flagstaff Volunteering
DESCRIPTION:Lowlands of Flag Trail Work\nJoin us to do some trail maintenance on Passage 32 between Walnut Canyon & Elden. \nHere are the details:\nWe’ll hike in ~2.5 miles with tools & take care of some brushing\, tread work\, & drains. This section of trail winds through junipers\, pine trees\, & features some fun little rock features. There isn’t a lot of elevation gain\, but we will be at ~6500 ft. Make sure you bring water\, sunscreen\, electrolytes\, & layers. Camping remains banned in this area\, but there places just outside of the Flagstaff mountains off of Lake Mary road\, past the peaks\, & north off of 89. \nTrail work will include:\nBrushing\nTreadwork\nDrainage Work \nDifficulty Rating:\nModerate: Accessible to first time volunteers but challenging in terms of access and/or intensity of work. Often this means either the hike in may be hard\, but the work is relatively easy or the reverse but not both being hard. \nMeeting Location:\nCosnino Rd just before RR crossing\, park on BNSF road

SUMMARY:Bird Walk at San Pedro House
DESCRIPTION:The San Pedro Riparian National Conservation Area (SPRNCA) provides habitat for over 100 species of breeding birds. The San Pedro River is also a critical avian migration corridor that provides water\, food\, and shelter for another 250 migratory and wintering birds. Novice and experienced bird watchers attend our bird walks to view the diverse avian community of the SPRNCA. We usually observe 30-60 species on these popular two-to-three-hour walks. Bring water\, a hat\, and binoculars. All are welcome\, but the walks may not be suitable for young children.  These walks can be moderately difficult on uneven terrain. No dogs\, please. All walks are free\, no reservations required.  Meet at the San Pedro House\, 9800 E. Highway 90. For more information\, call (520) 508-4445 or email fspr@sanpedroriver.org. Hosted by the Friends of the San Pedro River.
