Stop by the patio at the historic Kannally Ranch House to chat with a knowledgeable volunteer about using the Merlin Bird ID App\, recent bird sightings\, park information\, and pick up a free bird ID pamphlet. Enjoy watching dozens of bird species drawn to the park’s feeders\, and feel free to bring your coffee and breakfast to enjoy at the picnic tables. This is a great chance to relax\, connect with nature\, and learn more about local birds. \nAdditional information: Call the park at (520) 896-2425 or email Ranger Michael at mbain@azstateparks.gov.

SUMMARY:River Nature Walk
DESCRIPTION:Join our Friends of  the San Pedro River docents as they guide you along the San Pedro River\, one of the last free flowing rivers in the Southwest and home to one of the largest cottonwood-willow riparian forests remaining in Arizona. On this walk we will discuss the interactions of the living and non-living components that make up this unique riparian ecosystem and its importance to the surrounding area. The walks are 1.5 to 2 miles long over easy to moderate terrain. These are slower paced than a hike\, taking an average of 2 hours\, and are suitable for most adults and children.

SUMMARY:The Coronado Expedition
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for a talk by Dr. Deni Seymour\, the premiere archaeologist of the protohistoric era in the southern portion of the Southwest. Her recent fieldwork has resulted in the identification of Coronado expedition campsites\, battlefields\, and a villa near Nogales\, dating from 1539 – 1542. \nThe knowledge gained provides new insight into the expedition and also the native nations\, primarily the Sobaipuri O’odham\, that lived along the San Pedro then and still live in the Tucson area. The presentation includes the thoughts of the modern descendants of the O’odham who encountered the Expedition.

SUMMARY:Trail Work Days
DESCRIPTION:Yavapai Trails Association has worked with Prescott National Forest to set up each 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month as a trail workday. \nAt our work events you may enjoy routine brushing or trail building\, and occasionally we’ll spend a Saturday doing something a bit more adventurous. We may hike out further or do a slightly different type of work. Emails will go out prior to each work event with all the details. Please read them carefully to decide which work events are a good fit for you. \nYou may sign up to receive work event emails by sending an email to: yta.benefit@gmail.com and requesting to be added to our email list for volunteer workers. You do not need to be a member to join us for work events\, although we would appreciate it. Keep your eyes on our website and those emails! There may be opportunities for work every Saturday. \nThank you and Happy Trails! \nLook for an email just before each scheduled workday to remind you to RSVP and announce the location. Thank you for all your volunteer hours. \n*If you have them\, please bring your own hard hat/bike helmet\, gloves\, and eye protection. If you don’t have them\, we are able to provide those items. As always\, make sure to wear long sleeve shirts\, pants\, closed-toe shoes\, and bring snacks/water for the morning.
