SUMMARY:Name That Species
DESCRIPTION:Explore the beauty of Rogers Lake County Natural Area\, just outside Flagstaff\, with the Arizona Wildlife Federation! This special place features a variety of habitats: wetlands\, grasslands\, Ponderosa pine\, and Gambel oak. This mosaic supports a rich diversity of wildlife and native plants. \nWhile Rogers Lake\, which is an ephemeral lake\, often dries in late summer\, after a good monsoon or wet season\, the lakebed transforms into the perfect place for migratory waterfowl and other wildlife to gather. During the drier periods\, the area provides prime grazing grounds for large herds of elk that descend from Woody Ridge at dawn and dusk. With a bit of luck\, we might catch a glimpse of these majestic animals and other wildlife that frequent the area! \nDuring the hike\, we will utilize the mobile apps iNaturalist\, Seek by iNaturalist\, and Merlin to identify all sorts of flora and fauna in the area! We highly recommend you download these apps prior to attending.

SUMMARY:The Coronado Expedition
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for a talk by Dr. Deni Seymour\, the premiere archaeologist of the protohistoric era in the southern portion of the Southwest. Her recent fieldwork has resulted in the identification of Coronado expedition campsites\, battlefields\, and a villa near Nogales\, dating from 1539 – 1542. \nThe knowledge gained provides new insight into the expedition and also the native nations\, primarily the Sobaipuri O’odham\, that lived along the San Pedro then and still live in the Tucson area. The presentation includes the thoughts of the modern descendants of the O’odham who encountered the Expedition.
